Sometimes referred to in Japan as ‘standing MMA’, Shootboxing is a mixture of its parent combat styles of Kyokushin Karate, K1 and Shoot-Wrestling, developed in the 1980’s. Shootboxing allows kicks, punches, knees, elbows, Wrestling & Judo style throws and grappling & submissions as long as they are applied from a standing position. Shoot is a pro wrestling term for a ‘real’ fight.

In the world of combat sports, where strategies and styles collide, shootboxing emerges as a unique and dynamic discipline that combines the intricacies of both striking and grappling techniques. Shootboxing takes a holistic approach to combat, allowing fighters to seamlessly blend Muay Thai style striking & shoot grappling.

Our Shootboxing focus on the fundamentals of the discipline. All start with an intense conditioning workout and then move on to technique drills, partner work, pad work, sparring, and further conditioning exercises. We also have an additional Shootbox Grappling class on a Monday night for people that are interested in competing within MMA too.

Shootboxing was created in the 80’s by Japanese pro kickboxer Takeshi Caesar. In 1984, he became interested in wrestling and was introduced to Satoru Sayama, who trained him in shoot-style grappling at his Super Tiger Gym.

We offer an unpretentious, traditional and results-oriented Shootboxing gym that’s invested in your goals and success. We aim to not only provide the best quality classes and a strong team, but also a supportive, friendly atmosphere to train in.
