CJJ PRINCIPLES
- Balance Displacement. The goal here is to shift the attacker’s centre of gravity outside their base of support. By forcing their weight onto one leg or causing them to lean too far forward, you remove their ability to generate power in their strikes, leaving them vulnerable to sweeps and throws.
- Relative Position. Rather than meeting force with force, this concept is about moving to the attacker’s “blind spots” or weak angles. By stepping off the centreline (typically at a 45-degree angle to the outside), you position yourself where the attacker has limited mobility and a harder time tracking your movements.
- Two Points of Contact. To effectively control an attacker—especially one armed with a weapon—you need to manage their movement through at least two points of control (e.g., controlling their wrist and their shoulder/elbow). This allows you to apply locks, guide their momentum, and execute takedowns without exposing yourself to their other limbs.

THe jeet kune do 5 wayS of attack
The Five Ways of Attack are a core strategic framework within Bruce Lee’s Jeet Kune Do, designed to teach adaptability, timing, and efficiency in combat. These methods are:
- Single Direct Attack emphasises speed and simplicity through one decisive strike
- Attack by Combination uses rapid sequences to overwhelm an opponent and create opportunities
- Progressive Indirect Attack uses feints and misleading movements to manipulate reactions before striking the true target.
- Hand Immobilisation Attack controls or pins an opponent’s limbs to create clear openings.
- Attack by Drawing Intentionally provokes an opponent into attacking so they can counter at the perfect moment.
